Welcome :) |
As we got closer to Memphis Tyler suddenly decided we should take
a detour through Nashville and eat lunch/dinner at his favourite BBQ place on Broadway.
So we did it. It was great food and totally worth the stop.

Awesome picture, right? |
We ended the night in Memphis, ready to party on Beale Street. We
walked up and down the street and went into a few places. The bar that drew us
in and where we eventually decided to have a bite and a drink was *Wet Willies*.
There was a live band and since we were sitting right in the front, they spoke
to us, announcing to the whole bar who we were and where we were from.
The opening on the Olympics was also shown on one of the TV’s in
the bar, which was great since we got to watch a little.
Our 5 things we are thankful for
today…
1) The mega caverns in Louisville (which were fun)
2) Nashville BBQ (at Jack’s BBQ)
3) Beautiful Tennessee hills
4) Beale Street Block Party
5) Olympic opening ceremony, especially seeing both our countries announced! Go USA & RSA!

Favourite
moment of the day – As Tyler and I were driving in to Memphis we drove through
what seemed to be a ghetto area. Tyler looks up and sees a Dialysis Center…this
is what we said… Well, I supposed at least they have good eyes. Me…Er, what?
Tyler, well you know dialysis like dilate… uh, nice try dude.
Driving
through Nashville wasn’t a detour, however going to Jack’s was a bit of a
detour, we were always supposed to be passing through the city, but given we
had both been there I wasn’t planning on stopping until I remembered a great
BBQ place that an old college friend of mine had showed me down there. It
didn’t take much convincing and we were on our way.
As for
Memphis I will say this, it is very interesting to see Beale street and spend a
very little bit of time there, but I would NEVER, and I mean NEVER call that
place my home. It has a very bad reputation for crime and even just walking
around you always had a bit of a dirty feeling. It is however the home to FedEx
and where the business started.
As for the
Dialysis comment I will just use the excuse that it was very late at night
after multiple days of driving and I was tired… does that work? J
