Overwhelmed by love and presents…

Tyler’s first 24 hours in South Africa involved sunshine, family members, driving on the other side of the road and … Christmas Eve. We all gathered in the lounge with some lovely African Christmas tunes playing in the background. Then the madness began. It’s hard to have so many people, with so many gifts and try to have a definite order. We designated Riley and David as Santa’s helpers and they distributed the gifts, stopping occasionally to open one or two of the own. I got such wonderful, thoughtful gifts and ended the night feeling so blessed to have the family that I have. I think got to appreciate them too as they brought him some lovely proudly South African gifts. Long a long flight, and after many questions (about America) Tyler was ready to crash…and I decided to follow suit.

As Robyn mentioned I got many great gifts, each uniquely South African in its own right. This was both inspiring and touching at the same time. It was an amazing feeling to suddenly (ok, maybe not that suddenly, they had some warning I hope) show up at a families door step that you have never met before and have them welcome you with gifts and hospitality that would be hard to find anywhere in the world. It did not take me long to realize where my wonderful girlfriend got it from.
