Yip, that is my new Facebook relationship status and all my friends are now doing the *booty dance* (that’s very similar to the happy dance.) Tyler asked me out tonight and that means this adventure is about to get even more exciting! Starting with DC, tomorrow…

Warming NOT burning…

Tyler has now moved in with his best friend Andy and the guys decided to have a house warming celebration. The night started off well with Karabo, Nina, Tyler, Andy, Brittney (Andy’s girlfriend), Dan (aka Schaefer) and Nate gathered over drinks and snacks. Later on one of Brittney’s acquaintances joined the party…she was slightly strange to say the least. After drinking way to much we decided to set her up with a couch to sleep on so she could ‘sleep it off’. Luckily Brittney lives in the apartment above, so we had some space for her.

The party quietened down at about 2am, and everyone found some bed, couch or floor to inhabit. Karabo and Jeremy ventured outside when they were meet by an elderly lady who informed them there was smoke coming from the 3rd floor. After much confusion and a little panic we realized apartment 28 on the 3^rd floor was Brittney’s house! So Karabo, Brittney and I ran up to her place, barged through the door and were met by a smoke filled room (yes, we were silly enough to just open the door without knowing what was behind it.) My first reaction is to find the drunk girl, so I’m calling orders of open the windows, doors, stay low and cover your mouth! It is amazing what you remember and what you forget in situations like these. After searching the apartment we realized she had disappeared, left her shoes and made a very stupid mistake! She had tried to cook noodles in a hot pot (which is electric) which she put on the stove, without any water and the cord had caught fire! And for some strange reason there were Cheerios on the floor…

Whodunnit?!

My next post is about a Murder Mystery evening…well two of them actually. Tyler and I attended a small gathering that his cousin had put together. I become “Numbers” the shy accountant while Tyler became the second man to the mafia don. After a ‘murder’ and a night of detective work we came to the conclusion that we had NO IDEA who had killed the mafia don, but it was eventually revealed that Tyler was the murder *shock and horror!* The messed up thing is since it was arranged by Tyler’s cousin, some of the people there were related, so the full story line is Tyler killed his cousin because he was jealous of him, and he had also been having an affair with his girlfriend (who happened to be his sister). Hmmm…

The second murder mystery dinner was significantly less intimate as there were big tables of 8 people and there was only one character per table so we had a more relaxed dinner experience. I felt more like a spectator then a participant. This story line was centered around a wedding where the best man is murdered. Turns out the bride and best man were having an affair…and the groom was the murderer.

My opinion counts…

I was recently asked to attend a pizza tasting…free food, heck yes! It was at the same place where I did the pizza tour (Palermo’s.) I love their pizza and the tasting was really fun too. We got to sample 4 pieces of pizza, comparing two and two. We had a paper that looked like a multiple choice quiz…comparing cheese amount, colour and taste as well as the pizza base’s crispiness, colour and thickness and lastly toppings. It was a fun evening and it made me realize how much thought goes into the process and how much is involved in developing and manufacturing “box meals.”

Two years, one family…lots of memories…

As it goes Au Pairs are always leaving, arriving and re-matching. So when you as an Au Pair complete 2 successful years with the same family, it is a time to celebrate! Unfortunately many of the girls that were on this journey with me from the beginning are no longer in Wisconsin, but lucky for me I have met a bunch of other amazing girls with which I have shared some wonderful adventures.

I decided to plan a “Picnic in the Park” with my Au Pair friends and their host families. The weather was beautiful and the food plentiful (as usual with a group of Au Pairs.) We got to hang out, play ball games and Frisbee and even play a little in the Lake.

I got to reflect upon my American experience (I mean 114 posts later) and realize how lucky I have been with everywhere I have travelled to, everyone I have met and of course with the family I live with and the kids I look after! Ra-ra loves you guys!

Shake your body like a Belly Dancer...

With my Belly dancing debut (in America) coming up I decided to get some inspiration by attending a Belly Dance show. I thought it would be a good idea to invite my friends before I realized now they would be comparing me to a professional the entire duration of my dance show. Anyway we soldiered on getting a group of 6 of us to attend the show, it was really fun to watch some dancing and it got me excited for my show!

Afterwards we went out, where my friends decided they would show me a little something something on the dance floor, hmm I see I have some competition.

Finally the day I have been awaiting for arrived, it marked not only my 2 years since leaving South African soil but also the Belly Dance show. Ah, the 31st of May! A worked most of the day which meant I was too busy cleaning up apple sauce and mac and cheese to be worried about nerves. But once Amanda got home and I headed to the hall the butterflies began to set in. I was doing 2 solos, 3 group dances and had a group of about 15 people coming to watch me (Amanda and kids included.)

The show went well even though I made a few mistakes,  I really enjoyed my time on stage and to see the support from all my friends was wonderful! The best moments had to be when I glanced at my 'fan row' and notice Braden dancing to the music and trying to imitate everything we were doing on stage, as well as AJ trying to get her shimmey on after the show once we opened the stage to all the kids (and adults) that wanted to shimmy, shake and isolate.

Belly.Up.Night...

When a story begins with "When we went to the Belly Up bar" you know it's going to be an interesting story. So with that...

When we went to Belly Bar to celebrate Kevin and Tyler's last night in their apartment, Karabo and I were ready for a fun time as we have heard many a Belly Up story and were eager to create a few of our own. Thank fully the bar is within walking distance from their apartment so no one had to worry about driving home. Tyler failed to mention the walk was through a muddy nature trail...luckily I was prepared with beads that are super bright that you can never miss them, and I brought a flashlight and mace just in case!
